Well, another successful reunion has come and gone. There were 10
of us total: Vic Hightower '80, Jeff Hightower '90, Lisa Vasconcellos '85 and her
boyfriend Mel Harker, Mark '81 Vasconcellos and his wife Ceci, Gita Kevlin '74, Heidi
Lambert '84, Cheryl LaGue '72 and me. There would have been more, but others had office
Christmas parties, kids performing in Holiday recitals, etc. Those of us that were there
had a great time!
We met again at the Burbank Bar and Grille in "beautiful downtown Burbank". Many
groups had made reservations for office Christmas parties, so the place was packed.
Unfortunately, the person who took my reservation wrote it down on a post-it note and not
in the reservation book, so we did not have a table ready. Luckily for us they were able
to set up a table for us and it all worked out o.k.! The people at the Burbank Bar and
Grille were most gracious for both of our reunions. The food was very good and the service
was excellent. We stayed until approximately 10 pm.
Plans are in the works for the Paella Fest at Mark and Ceci Vasconcellos' home in February
or March. Gita Kevlin offered her home for a barbecue and Heidi Lambert offered hers for a
beach party. We also discussed having a mini-reunion in Las Vegas and/or Central
California. The bottom line is: we genuinely like each other and want to get more ASMers
together! Also, we are acutely aware that we failed in our first attempt to beat Miami's
reunion attendance! Miami is still #1 - we will admit that - but a challenge is a
challenge (Go Lancers! Go California!!).
It is difficult to describe the ASM mini-reunion experience to those who have not had the
chance to attend one. It does not matter how long you were at ASM, when you attended or if
you ever met before. The people who go to these reunions connect as if they have know each
other all their lives. The laughter, the smiles, the sparkle in the eyes ... It is a
terrific feeling!
Anyone can plan a mini-reunion. All it takes is a few e-mails or phone calls and making a
reservation. No fancy preparations are required. I hope every ASMer reading this makes it
a point to meet with at least one or two other ASMers in 1999.
