by Michelle (Fearey LaGue) Mock - ASM '69

Y2K Bug:

Aprkl was a busy month. People from the Skxtkes Decade started appearkng agakn. We had two mknk-reunkons kn Calkfornka (fkve from the 60s decade met kn San Francksco) and kn Mkamk, the Class of 1969 Reunkon Commkttee has been makkng plans for a 60s/69 reunkon kn August. See below for detakles!!! May was even busker. A teacher's lkfe gets a lkttle out of control at that tkme of year when we try so hard to fknksh all those thkngs we had hoped to accomplksh durkng the school year. Then along comes June, wrappkng up all the odds and ends, graduatkons, seems so long ago! July ks almost gone! Oh, my!

K managed to avokd the Melkssa vkrus, but the Y2K bug ks alkve and dokng well! People are saykng that when we rkng kn the New Year kn 2001, we may experkence horrkble thkngs wkth electrkckty and other utklkty compankes. The banks may not be able to compute our knterest and may tell us that we don't have mkllkons of dollars kn our savkngs accounts!

People keep saykng kt ks the Y2K bug, but K thknk they are confused about whkch letter kt really ks! Look at thks newsletter! What wkll K ever do!?!

Y2K Fix:

Luckily, I just received an Honorary PHd in Specialized Computer Teaching from the Wizard of Odds at Presley U. I was able to fix the Y2K bug (Greek "I") and am back in business. The year 2000 will be a breeze!

Speaking of the Wizard of Odds ...

Pepe Presley '69 (Nashville, TN):

Pepe explained that it took him so long to be found because he has been very busy. I'll say! He has fought bulls in Mexico, climbed Mt. Everest, documented the life of polar bears in the Arctic for National Geographic and discovered the mummies in Argentina... He currently lives in Nashville, Tennessee, where he performs with his band the .....

Some things never change, I don't buy this bunch of malarkey, does anyone else? Would you believe an Investment Banker in Tennessee? That's a stretch but the truth!

Pepe is married with three children: two boys (18 and 14) and a girl (8 1/2). His sister Talena '66 is in Hawaii, Tina '67 is in Santa Monica and Jimmy '71 is in San Francisco.

Pepe can be reached at PepeASM@aol.com

Saskia Reicher (Lida Hoohuis) '69 (Vancouver, BC):

Thanks to the investigative efforts of Bill Mock '69, Saskia (formerly Lida) was located at her parents home in Madrid on the last day of her vacation before returning to Vancouver. Bill quickly emailed everyone from the class of 1969, to let us know. I called Saskia in Madrid and learned that she is remarried with two children. Mark (17) just graduated from high school and daughter Nikki is 14. She is back home in Vancouver now and thrilled to be "found".

Saskia can be contacted at SaskiaR@home.com

Rebecca Mitchell (Becky Philbrook) '69 (Dallas, TX):

Bill also found Brad Philbrook, in Denver, and Brad provided the link to his sister, Rebecca, in Dallas. Rebecca and I spoke on the phone and in the excitement I took lousy notes and forgot many of the details of the conversation (its the age thing). I do remember that she said her children are now in their 20s and have left the nest and are on their own.

Rebecca can be reached at Fernguys@aol.com

Sheila Donovan '69 (NY, NY):

Rebecca was able to provide contact information on Sheila. Sheila works for Banco Atlantico in Manhattan. Sheila was at ASM until 1966. She went on to Marymount International School in Barcelona where I met her (we were both boarders).

Sheila can be found at sheila.donovan@batlantico.com

From Joanne (Haer) Edmonds* (Panama City, FL):

What a pleasure it was to receive your delightful letter of February 9: your own news -- teaching and children and your news of ASM alumni getting together in person and via email. It is not surprising to hear of these "reconnections": your lives were special and now, almost 30 years later, they must seem even more so in retrospect.

I received a letter from Donna Di Stefano Buttecali ('78) and a phone call from Anna Ferrer ('67) with lots of news, which I'm sure you have so I'll not repeat names and addresses.

If I'm in the South -- and I try not to be during the heat of June-Sept -- I'll make an effort to join you people for a copa in Miami in mid-August. Do let me know your dates, etc. Mrs. Curbera, recently retired from ASMs English Department, may very well be in Miami in August to visit her daughter. She was here at my place in late January.

It was difficult for me to leave my lovely little spot on a mountainside outside of El Escorial. I lived there from '72 to '96 but I found a new way of life and a beautiful home here in a nicely under-populated area 15 miles inland from the beaches.

Best wishes to you personally and to your alumni endeavors and loving wishes to every ASM alumnus in the world!

Joanne Edmonds

The Class of 1969 was saddened to find out that we had lost one of our own. Marina Hooghuis '69, Lida's sister, passed away two years ago in Madrid. We will miss her very much.

Newsletter Input:

Many have asked why there hasn't been a newsletter since April. Well, I need your input to put one together. We have found many more people from the Sixties Decade in the last few months, but I have not received any additional mini-bios or information for publication.

If you have not yet had your mini-bio published, please send it to me. If you have sent me information and it has not been published, please let me know, or resend it.

Do you have any ASM memories you would like to see published? Do you wish to share any thoughts about the upcoming reunion BEFORE the event? If I receive input, I will send out an August newsletter.

Voice of the Sixties can be found at: http://www.gutech.com/asm/asmart.htm . This newsletter is dependent upon input from ASM 60s alumni. Please send your stories, mini-bios and any news you would like to share to MFeareyASM@aol.com. Comments and suggestions are encouraged as well.
